We understand that taking the first steps into therapy can be full of anxiety and uncertainty. Trust is difficult to build and sharing your story can be very challenging. The first visit is an opportunity to see if there is a good fit between the client and therapist. Time is taken to listen to your struggles and concerns and work with you during that initial session to develop a plan to meet your treatment goals. We will ask you questions about your history, daily functioning and health.
After the initial session, further sessions will focus on the treatment modalities chosen to meet your goals. We are careful to not begin working on your experiences and struggles until you are capable of grounding yourself and regulating your emotions. We will work with you to develop resourcing tools, integrate the knowledge and tools you may already have acquired and get you feeling confident. We want you to learn strategies of controlling your thoughts and not letting them control you, calming your physical symptoms and learning how not to take on others emotions.
It is important that you feel comfortable with the therapist your working with and within the healing environment. We strive to make our space gentle, calming and inviting for everyone.
