Nutritional and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health

What is Nutritional and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health?

Integrative Nutrition and Medicine for Mental Health is a whole-body approach to treating mental health conditions by utilizing a range of medicine and nutritional sciences. Many individuals are self prescribing based on the online sources or information from others. Some of these clinical methods are beneficial; however, some herbal supplements, juice fasts and other activities could result in significant adverse outcomes if not accustomed to the individual’s psychobiology. They can even exacerbate many mental health conditions and maladaptive coping strategies to stress. This can lead to looping health and mental health conditions that are difficult to diagnose and treat. Many get treated for symptoms and not the underlying mental health cause of the health condition.

The gut brain connection is well researched and documented amongst health professionals. This is because there is a two-way information highway between the brain and gut. Neurotransmitters send two way messages by travelling through the immune system and nerves. There is a saying: “Where there are gut/digestive problems there is always a mental health problem and where there is a mental health problem there is always a gut health problem.” They coexist. Taking care of both will bring physical and mental well being and peace.
